Issues that matter to us
"I take very seriously the important issues that confront us in our everyday lives. It is critical that your elected representatives recognize these issues and address them energetically to create a better community for all Nevadans. Below you will find just a few of my proposals to deal with the problems of uncontrolled government spending, over-reaching government, illegal immigration, and less than satisfactory student performance scores."
The Issues
TAXES & SPENDING
• I support departmental performance review audits conducted by non-governmental auditors, which will ensure different government agencies aren't duplicating government work.
• I support abolishing state agencies and programs that are no longer needed.
• I will fight to protect Nevada's budget from wasteful spending the way I do with my own checkbook!
• I am a strong supporter of Governor Gibbons' SAGE Commission to combat government waste. VISIT THE SAGE COMMISSION WEBSITE HERE.
FIGHTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
• First and foremost, we must secure our borders. I support denying illegal immigrant's taxpayer funded privileges including driver's licenses. No taxpayer dollars should be unnecessarily spent on people who come here illegally.
• I support sanctioning employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
• No Millennium Scholarships for illegal immigrants.

PROPERTY TAXES
• I support making the cap on property taxes permanent.
• I support an across-the-board $500 property tax cut for all senior citizens to ensure that they'll never have to sell their homes because their property taxes are too high.
• I will aggressively fight against any effort to impose a state income tax.

MAKING GOVERNMENT LIVE WITHIN ITS MEANS
• I support balancing the budget without new taxes.
• Government employee pensions and benefits should be defined contribution, not defined benefit. As we in the private sector have lost benefits and had our wages frozen, government employees have continued to receive pay increases and lavish benefits paid for by the taxpayers. We cannot afford to continue to hand out lavish benefits to the public sector. HERE IS AN EDITORIAL ON MY DEFINED CONTRIBUTION BILL
ACCOUNTABILITY IN EDUCATION
• Accountability: I'll work hard to make sure that education dollars are spent on students - not on an education bureaucracy. Also, we should reward excellent teachers by paying them like the professionals they are - and hold underachieving teachers accountable.
• Achievement: Students must master English, math and other core subjects before they can graduate. Our tax dollars should be spent ensuring that Nevada's students have the skills they need to succeed in life.
• Accommodating Growth: When new neighborhoods are built, we must ensure that schools are built in a timely manner to handle the influx of new students. Here is the bill that I proposed last Session to deal with this issue: CLICK HERE.
GROWTH & WATER
• We must create a long-term plan for our water supply. Laws must be crafted to ensure that current residents have an adequate water supply for years to come.
• Protect our neighborhoods from casino proliferation and other adult businesses. These establishments do not belong where our families make their homes.
• Smart Growth. Economic diversification makes sense for our community, but growth needs to be carefully planned and needs to be consistent with the needs and concerns of neighborhoods.
